“Trip & Co’s product development and innovation keeps them ahead of the competition”

Name: Jos Mes, Buyer Projects at KLM Cargo

Company: KLM Cargo
Client since: 1989

Purchased services:

  • Isolation covers
  • Cargo tie-down straps

Jos Mes is Buyer Projects at KLM Cargo and as such responsible for overall buying for the company’s freight handling business. He has been personally involved since after Trip & Co  moved to Nieuw-Vennep. KLM Cargo’s cooperation with Trip & Co dates back to over 30 years ago.

“At the time, Trip and KLM jointly developed the isolation cover. KLM was the world’s first airline to use these covers. Nowadays, Trip & Co offers a wide range of covers, made possible by the company’s product development and innovation. Not just for the airline industry but also in other markets such as food retail.”

Isolation covers of various types and cargo tie-down strips are the main product categories KLM Cargo buys in large quantities from Trip & Co.

Very customer-oriented

“If we wish to have a special product made, Trip & Co takes up the challenge, investigates the existing product and starts examining ways to improve user-friendliness and sustainability among other things and arrive at a next-level product.”

Flexibility as a supplier is key

As everywhere when buying, for Jos Mes the three key elements are pricing, quality and flexibility. Focusing on the last element, flexibility: “Trip & Co’s head office is very close by. If we need to confer and also if we need extra volumes of products at short notice, they can respond quickly and fulfill our needs.”

Trip & Co supplies KLM Cargo – a subsidiary of Air France-KLM – with its products both at Schiphol International Airport near Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and at Charles de Gaulle airport near Paris, France.

Innovation in product development

Jos Mes’ opinion on what keeps Trip & Co ahead of the competition in today’s market: “With the arrival of the new generation managing Trip & Co about six years ago, the company has heavily invested in product development and innovation. Whereas before it was more or less ‘business as usual’. The previous generation left a solid foundation upon which the current management has built its present business. I really admire how they can compete with and keep ahead of big competitors on a global scale. Trip & Co have optimized their business processes in order to do so.”
